To address this we bring together our ‘top down’ asset allocation process with a range of collective investment recommendations analysed and monitored by the Company's managed funds team and alternative asset allocation committee.
The aim of our multi-manager portfolio service is to extend our core investment process and deliver two investment solutions seeking to achieve superior risk-adjusted returns relative to financial markets, with lower volatility and correlation over the medium term.
Historically client objectives were defined by such terms as low or medium risk, balanced growth or medium to higher risk equity growth. Whilst these and similar categories continue to be used in client agreements and terms of business, investors are increasingly using more broadly based investment and risk objectives that may be summarised below as:
Capital Preservation
A defensive portfolio aiming to outperform cash plus 2% over a rolling three year period with lower volatility than financial markets.
Managed Growth
A balanced portfolio aiming to offer attractive returns relative to financial markets with lower volatility and correlation over the medium term.
Allocations are made across both multi and single manager funds, which provide underlying asset class, investment strategy, geographic and manager diversification. The aim of which is to provide lower market correlation and risk in terms of volatility. It is also important to emphasise that all funds are selected on a best-of-breed basis as Rathbones operates a policy of open architecture.
